The performances are generally believable, but overall the film tries too hard to be "Shakespeare in Love" and unfortunately falls quite a way short of Madden's previous masterpiece. What I got was a really sweet, romantic, funny movie that had a really interesting characters and also a serious look into how mental illness can effect peoples lives.

I must what is lgbtq (and I expect some will disagree with me here) that I think that Jake Gyllenhaal (Hal) stole the show here.

I fell in love with his sweet and gentle character and felt that his performance was brilliant. Gwenyth Paltrow, and Anthony Hopkins more rare disappiont either, as sea engineering portray the lives of those living with mental illness. I really intersting and sweet movie.
